PDO Thread Lift

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

This procedure is a face lift that is carried out with little or no down time and usually within an hour (sometimes more if the procedure involves multiple areas). The procedure can treat a full face or partial face dependant on your needs. The results deliver a naturally attractive, yet subtle lift, that gives a refreshed, rejuvenated youthful look.

What areas can be treated?

The PDO Thread Lift can improve and reduce the appearance of sagging, loose skin , such as the jowls, cheeks, neck and eyebrows. The pre-treatment consultation will identify the areas to be targeted to achieve an overall enhanced appearance.

How do they work?

Very fine threads, made from a special dissolvable material, similar to dissolving stitches, are inserted at specific points around the face/neck and moved along the contours of the areas of the face being treated and gently secured under the skin. Over the following months, the threads stimulate and encourage your body’s collagen to grow and replace them, thereby giving a natural lifting effect. This also will smooth out fine surface wrinkles, lines and folds.

Is it painful and what about recovery?

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the face and a local anaesthetic is injected at the insertion points and sometimes along the contours.
The procedure is minimally invasive and there is no scarring risk, as there would be in a traditional surgical lift. Similarly, recovery is quicker than the surgical equivalent and most people return to normal activities the same day or next.
As with any intervention, there are side-effects and risks to consider, such as bruising, swelling and tenderness. There may be initial slight unevenness or imbalance and numbness. Rarely infection may occur. Side-effects, especially bruising will disappear but can be concealed with a mineral based foundation. However, we do recommend to time your treatment so that it is not within 2-3 weeks of an event that you may want to attend. Avoidance of exercise is recommended for 2 weeks after the procedure.

How long do the effects last?

This is dependent on the age of the person when threads are placed and also how much correction, ‘lifting’, is required. Typically results can last up to 2 years and can be enhanced with additional types of PDO threads to further improve collagen formation. As time passes, some of the lifting effect will reverse due to our continued ageing process and re-treatment will be necessary.

Who can carry out PDO Thread Lifts?

As with any aesthetic medical procedure it should only be performed by suitably qualified professionals with experience in aesthetic medicine. At Cosmetic Smile Studio, Dr Prashant Amin provides this treatment. He has experience in aesthetic medicine since 2007 and is trained in and registered to carry out advanced medical aesthetic procedures such as PDO Thread Lifts.
